"I", and "me" as used on this page, is Joda Collins. "I, the reader" is you; and "you" is you. It takes
about 15 minutes to read this page. If you do not have access to a computer, a paper copy of this is available upon request.
What this Site does and does not do.
1. This site is safe. It does not mention
the name of our church and carries no volunteers' name or other personal information. To Internet "hackers" the information
on this site is absolutly unexciting, totally boring, wholly uninteresting, and completely useless. It is interesting and
useful only to those who want to know more about, or become involved in one avenue of maintenance effort of our church. In
our age of electronic communication, almost every church (including ours), millions of businesses, and millions of people
(including me) have websites. No web site, among the millions in existance, has a greater level of safety than this site has.
Those who are not "internet savvy" can verify the safety, integrity, and benign nature of this site with anyone who is
"internet savvy."
2. This site facilitates the ease of the initial flow of introductory information
about our work to those who show interest. Nothing more.
3. This site is free to us and is paid for
by those who advertise here. We have no control over those who advertise here; however, all advertisements are tasteful, professional,
moral, and non-offensive.
4. This site saves time and conserves church funds, promotes better understanding
of our goals, makes it easier for those who are interested to secure the relevant information, increases the number of volunteers,
saves the trees (since this page replaces the use of paper), reduces the cost of copy reproduction and postage for our church,
and allows others to pass on this information in a speedy, safe, and professional manner. In addition, this site is safe,
costs nothing, and looks good!
Our Mission
Dear Friend,
Thank you for your interest in serving as a volunteer. Our goal is to keep the church in clean and
in good repair. A clean, well maintained church draws new members, and pleases existing members. Mostly, the condition of
the church reflects our respect for Jesus.
None of the work is glamorous, but it is important and honorable work.
I do the work with a sense of honor because it took a Levitical Priest to care for the House of Worship in the Old Testament,
and I know Jesus appreciates our efforts to keep the place of worship clean and well maintained.

What day and time do I, the reader, serve?
You select the time that best fits your lifestyle. You can serve at the same day and time each month or you can serve
as you have the opportunity (time availability).
You have two service time/day options. You can schedule the same day and time each month or serve as you
can.
1. Serve at the same day and time each month, such as on the second Tuesday from 6pm to 8:30pm.
This option affords some advantages.
Setting a time and date is, by far, the best method. It sets a time so I
can plan your work, and organize your work equipment and supplies in advance, it allows me to "leave your work undone"
so it is a needed task upon your arrival, and be on premises when you serve. I try to be on premises for all volunteers so
I can facilitate your service if you have needs,
OR/AND, you can:
2. Serve as you have opportunity.
This option has the convenience of serving when you are best able, and for some will be the best option.
If you select
this option, it is important that you give me some advance notice (one day in advance is preferred but at least one hour in
advance is necessary) so that I can have your materials ready for you to use and be on premises if possible or necessary.
You can supply that advance notice by calling the church office (850.623.3954) during my scheduled working hours (M, W, F,
8am to 4pm), contact me by phone (850.981.3355), or email (DrJLCollins@aol.com) all other days and hours.
I have found this option less beneficial for the simple reason that we usually do what we plan, and usually fail to do
what we fail to plan. Days turn into weeks, and weeks into months, and the demands of life sap our best wishes.
However, if a person sets a monthly date, and makes plans to serve, the chances of regular service increases dramatically.
How much time does it take?
I ask that you commit to one service per month for 2 to 3 hours per service date.
I understand
that some will want to commit more such as serving weekly, and some will not be able to work a full 2-hours. Two to three
hours per month is a guideline. For those who want to work more, that is great. For those who cannot serve a 2-hour block,
that is fine. Do what you want to, when you want to. I appreciate your help, whatever you give. I would prefer a person work
less, and serve for a longer period of time, than work often and "burn out." We live hurried lives, and I do not what your
involvement in this effort to become a burden to you. Under normal circumstance I will assume you are committing to 2.5 hours
work per month. If you would like to serve more or less than that, just let me know.
What if I, the reader, cannot make my secheduled time to serve?
I understand the stress, pressures, and interruptions of life. If something comes up and you cannot serve as scheduled,
that is fine. It is no problem. Please do not let your service overly hamper your life. If you have the time to give me a
call and let me know you cannot serve as scheduled, that would assist me, but if you do not, that is fine also. If I do not
hear from you, I will automatically assume something came up and reschedule you for your next service time, or if you are
on a "serve as able" option, I will wait on your contact that let's me know of your next available time to serve. If you want
to change your service time, just let me know.
What is the Length of Commitment?
Length of commitment is zero days.
Quit anytime you want, with or without notice. I understand life responsibilities, schedules, and interests change. I
am glad for your help as long as you are happy to give it. No length of time requirement is asked for or expected.
However, once every four months (the first week of January, May, and September) you will be asked "If you want to continue."
This gives an automatic "quit" date for those who want to quit, but would like to serve out a "term."
Specific Tasks
Carpentry Electrical Plumbing Painting Power Washing Light Yard Work Lighting (replace burnt out
light bulbs) Mop and Wax Floors Vacuum Carpets Trash Removal Stocking Paper Supplies
After you select a
general area (above), I will give you specifics.
Select a task that you enjoy so the effort is less like work.
Work slow, not fast. No one ever
passed a completed task and was impressed because the work was done "fast." People notice whether the work is done well or
poorly, nothing more. I would much rather a person did a little bit in an excellent fashion, than do a lot of work poorly.

Supplies and Equipment
The Church provides all supplies and equipment except
for paint brushes. If you are a painter, please purchase your own paint brush or brushes. Most people are not
proficient at cleaning paint brushes after use. This means paint brushes are pretty much ruined for detail work after
one use by (most) others. Provide me the sales receipt from your paint brush purchase, and I will see to it that you
are reimbursed immediately. Thank you.
How Do We Secure Volunteers?
If you know of anyone who would like to assist us in this effort, give
me their name, telephone number, and/or email address and I will contact them, or pass this web site on to them with
your encouragement for them to contact me about service.
Am I, the reader, joining the Building and Ground Committee?
No. We are not "a committee." And, we are not the Building
and Grounds Committee.
The Building and Ground Committee consists of people who have committee
meetings, are included as a line item committee in the budget of the church, have voice and vote in the church as a committee,
serve under the direction of the Building and Grounds chairman, have scheduled committee group work days, work closely with
the Pastor to accomplish ever-changing tasks, and committee members (typically or often) serve for a term of time (usually
one year).
Maintenance volunteers have no committee meetings, are not funded as
a line item in the church budget, have no "combined" voice at church business meetings, serve under my direction, do not have
scheduled "group" work days (all serve according to their individual schedule), do not deal with ever-changing tasks but accomplish
repetitious tasks, and have no official "term of service."
We are not "a committee."
Doesn't our work conflict with the Building and Grounds Committee?
Absolutely not.
I am an ex-officio member of the Building and Grounds Committee, serve
with that committee on most work days, and coordinate all of my work (as Facilities Manager) to coordinate
and compliment the efforts of the Building and Grounds Committee, Custodian, Yard Maintenance Men, and Maintenance Volunteers.
The Facilities Manager, Custodian, Building and Grounds Committee, Yard
Maintenance Men, and Maintenance Volunteers work cooperatively and efficiently toward the same goals in the
same way the Youth Sunday School
Department, the Children's Sunday School Department,
and the Adult Sunday School Department cooperate to efficiently towards their same goals of accomplish Sunday School
Bible training.
What if I, ther reader, want to serve on the Building and Grounds Committee?
Great! Let me know and I will direct you to the chairman of that
committee. He will be delighted to
you, I am sure.
What if I, the reader, wanted to serve on the Building and Grounds Committee and as a volunteer for
maintenance?
Fabulous!
What if I am not happy?
If you become unhappy about anything, let me know, and I wlll do all within my power to solve any problem. Your
service is needed, and I want you to be cheerful about giving your time and effort.
If, after reading this information, you would like to assist or if you have additional questions, contact me by email
(DrJLCollins@aol.com) or phone (850 981-3355). Let me know what area or areas of service you are interested in and I
will provide more detailed information about the work. Let me know in what "time" frame you would like to work
(scheduled monthly or more often, or "as able").
Thank you. Joda Collins
